Well, you all know know how I am with decisions - terrible.
So, here's a situation for you all to comment on...
I've been offered the rent of a place, for a sane (or better then sane) price. It's more then I'm paying the parents rent wise - even more when you add little things like bills.
However, it's within the limits of available finances.
Now, the question is what do I do? What should I consider?

you should consider a gf in canada
and since this just happened again...

Go for it, nice to be at home but nice to have some independence.
new blog post :) please
Find someone to share with you if you want, there are 2 bedrooms.
Also will give you someone to talk to in the evening.
And moving out will give you space of your own. with no jobs to do except what you want. also there will be no 'turn off your pc' or 'go to bed' and 'tidy your room' comments :)
From the sounds of it, your not signing a 12 year contract. Also there is lots that can and have to be done if your renting a place.
eg. suitable factilities in good working order.
You need to sit down with the landlord and list all the things you would like done, and discuss realistic time scales for when they will get things done by. Get the resolutions agreed and get the landlord to sign a document detailing what will be done and by when, and what the penalties are if things are not done to the agreed time scale.
At the end of the day, if your landlord doesn't sort out issues with the propery, you can find an alternative location to rent leaving them with an empty property they will have issues renting out if the problems are not resolved.
I agree with richard ... find a 2nd roomate and go for it!!
The place in question is currently being occupied by the soon-to-be landlord, which means that it is in fairly good nick (except the bathroom, which will be fixed ASAP).
The only reason for the sweetheart rent is cos it is a "friend rate", as we know that we will be able to trust Born Free to treat the place well, and not trash the place :o)
sounds fair enough to me, if the only issue will be sorted out.
if its the money side your worried about then get someone else to rent with you.
or you could consider your gf from canada, maybe she would like to come over for a break.
Must admit, that the flat is 100% cat free and would be ideal for visitors who have reactions to cat hair :D
haha true true... but in canada when you start working you get 10 days vacation, in the UK you get 25... now 2 for Uni. Graduation, 1 already taken in FEb. 2 for grandparents 50th wedding anniversary.. that leave.. 5 . ONE week. Thats if I dont find a new job and loose all of the above. I know i should visit.. soon
wow - just 10 days holiday :(
I assume this is paid holiday.
Can you take unpaid holiday?
Yeah I can but subject to approval..the question is can I afford it? fresly out of University with student loans... have been living alone 6 years without mommy and daddy to give me cheap rent and free meals. will have to buy a car at some point and having to move to more expensive rent in may....
on the good side I found out that IF i stay at this job.. starting May 24th I get a 3rd week's vacation.. (but thats if i stay till dec.09 if not I have to pay it back partially)
NOTE FOR BORN FREE: I HAVE FOUND CHEAPER FLIGHT 332pounds sterling but the dates arent ideal. Charter flights during the summer with Air transat.
Money raises it's head again :(
Shame everything is getting expensive.
No kidding .. today at work I filled out some tools thing online trough my group benefit for retirement planning...
and this tool predicted how much according to 30 years ago and the current economy how much 1$ (or pound sterling) was worth then and how much it would be in 30 years from now....
I dont have the specific numbers because it was according to a retirement needing amount from 65 to 85, 30 years needing today 350 000 and in 30 years that will have become approx. 800 000. anyhow it was depressing, very depressing.
Please don't mention retirement savings...
I cannot use most of the retirement planning tools on the net due to the amount our PCs are locked down :( but I have a good idea what I need to save etc. And that you need to make sure it’s not nibbled away by inflation and the tax man :( I do agree with you - it is very depressing.
I have pulled together some things I need to do to ensure that when I retire I can live comfortably.
1) Don't get married.
2) Don't have a partner.
3) Don't have children.
4) Win the national lottery jackpot.
5) Save every penny in a high interest savings account (average of 0.3% gross interest).
6) Don't buy any new IT or technical gadget.
7) Grow my own vegetables and make it self-sustaining.
8) Cancel Christmas, Birthdays and all other card/present related occasions (e.g. Mother's day, Valentine's day, etc)
9) Wear the same clothes everyday.
10) Don't wash clothes, dishes and even myself.
11) Don't drive or own a car.
Alternatively I could become a benefit claimer.
1) Get a registry marriage.
2) Get wife pregnant ASAP and have a large family (10+ kids).
3) Claim benefits for kids, and everything else.
4) Then when I hit retirement, get everything paid for by the tax payer.
It is 6:45am , i'm sitting at my desk at work waiting for 7am to come around. 2 other employees are in since 6:30am and one manager (note this central usually has 250+ employees)
... AND I CANT STOP LAUGHING at your post :D
Glad it amused you :)
